CAN WE GET MORE CROSS WALK SIGNS AT SCHOOL CROSS WALKS?
In my interviews with city officials and local residents. I've had discussions about road safety and in one discussion with a crossing guard for the local schools I was told of hazardous drivers that put the school cross walks at risk.
Everyone wants their Elementary student safe when crossing streets. My thought was getting more light crossing signals installed in the city. As a means to create awareness and training for motorists to recognize conditions where they must slow down and stop for pedestrians.
Currently we have 3 such signals I know of on Community Center Drive. Those signals have slowly been training drives to be aware and to slow and stop for pedestrians in the cross walk. The city needs more of these and I've been making inquiries into what it would take to make this happen.
I'm not looking for all cross walks for that would be overly expensive. But I do think the City could work with the Schools and determine which cross walks have the most pedestrians and are manned by crossing guards and install these lighted crossing signals at those locations. Just one great tool to provide better safety to the life of our younger residents. Not to mention added safety for our Crossing Guards in the performance of their duties.
This sounds to me like a great idea and as Mayor it'll be one of my projects for the city of Northglenn. I have already started the ball rolling and some in the city are giving it good bit of thought for the safety and improvement of city streets.
